The Serengeti National Park<\/strong> in Tanzania is one of Africa\u2019s most iconic safari destinations<\/strong>, covering nearly 15,000 square kilometres<\/strong>. With over 350,000 visitors annually<\/strong>, it remains one of the most sought-after wildlife experiences in the world. The park is home to the legendary Great Migration<\/strong>, abundant predator sightings, and some of the most spectacular landscapes in Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Driving north from the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA)<\/strong> in the south to the Mara River<\/strong> on the Kenya border showcases a beautiful transition in landscapes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s a breakdown of the key areas of the Serengeti<\/strong>, their pros and cons<\/strong>, and what to expect in terms of topography, wildlife, and safari<\/strong> based on my experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Topography & Landscape<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

As you descend from the Ngorongoro Crater<\/strong>, the landscape shifts from rolling hills and acacia woodlands<\/strong> to vast, open grasslands<\/strong>\u2014the reason the Serengeti is named ‘Endless Plains<\/strong>‘ in the Maasai language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA)<\/strong> allows co-existence between Maasai pastoralists and wildlife<\/strong>, making it one of the few places in Africa where you\u2019ll see Maasai herders grazing livestock near herds of zebra and wildebeest. You’ll notice the Maasai settlements gradually disappearing as the NCA transitions into the Serengeti. The only other tell-tale sign is some white marker posts along the boundary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
