As a small charity, we know that targeted support can go a long way. At the end of 2024, thanks to your generosity, we were able to fund three powerful conservation and community projects with our year-end giving- these donations help wildlife while also empowering people living alongside them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Here\u2019s a quick recap of the additional small projects you helped support through last year\u2019s fundraising:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
1. Grevy\u2019s Zebra Trust \u2013 Community Scouts in Northern Kenya<\/strong> One of their most effective tools is their network of community scouts\u2014dedicated individuals, largely women (many of them widows or single mothers), who serve as citizen scientists. These scouts monitor zebra populations, reduce conflict, and act as conservation ambassadors within their communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n 2. Orangutan Foundation \u2013 Reforestation in Borneo<\/strong> Our year-end donation in 2024 helped continue reforestation efforts in the Lamandau Wildlife Reserve, building on our 2022 support, which funded a new nursery and the raising and planting of 12,000 wild seedlings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 3. Organic Farming for People & Gorillas \u2013 Rwanda<\/strong> With your help, we supported a small but vital organic farming programme providing food security and sustainable livelihoods for local communities. The project has already helped around 100 families. By supplying tools, seeds, and training, it fosters peaceful coexistence between people and gorillas\u2014protecting both biodiversity and human wellbeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Thank you<\/strong> for helping us support these small, strategic projects. In northern Kenya, Grevy\u2019s zebra numbers have plummeted to fewer than 2,000 individuals. The Grevy\u2019s Zebra Trust works with local pastoralist communities to conserve this endangered species, which is found only in Kenya and Ethiopia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Borneo\u2019s tropical rainforests are some of the most biologically rich ecosystems on Earth\u2014but they remain under threat from logging, agriculture, and fire. The Orangutan Foundation is working to safeguard these forests and the Critically Endangered orangutans that call them home, including through hands-on reforestation work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our third project is based in Rwanda, on the edge of Volcanoes National Park, home to Endangered mountain gorillas. Introduced to us by long-time collaborator Ian Redmond and delivered by Obed Niyitegeka, the initiative aims to reduce human-wildlife conflict by supporting families displaced by park restoration efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
