{"id":16429,"date":"2025-12-02T17:28:35","date_gmt":"2025-12-02T17:28:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/explorersagainstextinction.co.uk\/blog\/?p=16429"},"modified":"2026-01-14T11:28:47","modified_gmt":"2026-01-14T11:28:47","slug":"sketch-for-survival-autumn-auction-highlights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/explorersagainstextinction.co.uk\/blog\/sketch-for-survival-autumn-auction-highlights\/","title":{"rendered":"Sketch for Survival: Autumn Auction Highlights"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This year\u2019s <strong>Autumn Auction<\/strong> delivered a series of standout moments, with particularly strong bidding across the <strong>Sketch for Survival (SFS)<\/strong> collections and several results that mark an important milestone for the initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In total, <strong>eight artworks achieved hammer prices of \u00a31,000 or more<\/strong>, split evenly across the two collections: <strong>four from On the Brink<\/strong> and <strong>four from Sketch for Survival<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The defining moment came when <strong>Louise Hancox\u2019s <\/strong>sea otter artwork, <em>Praying for Kelp<\/em>, achieved a hammer price of <strong>\u00a35,500<\/strong>, making it the <strong>highest-selling Sketch for Survival competition piece to date<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To put this achievement in context:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The previous highest hammer price for a <strong>Sketch for Survival competition piece<\/strong> was <strong>\u00a31,500<\/strong>, achieved by <strong>Dave Porter\u2019s exquisite cheetah<\/strong> <strong>cubs<\/strong> artwork in the 2020 auction.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Close behind was <strong>Alison Jenkins\u2019 impressive lion<\/strong> <strong>portrait<\/strong>, which graced our billboard on Waterloo Bridge in 2024. Details follow.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Louise\u2019s sea otter was not alone in drawing impressive bids. Other four-figure artworks this year included <strong>Charlotte Cook\u2019s wonderful dazzle of zebra<\/strong> at <strong>\u00a31,000<\/strong>. Although we highlight the star lots above, it is important to remember that the collections work as a whole,  raising awareness of species and habitats under threat, as well as generating funds for frontline conservation. However, if all payments come in as expected, the combined collections will achieve a <strong>total selling price of just under \u00a348,000<\/strong>. This unique piece has plenty of admirers but is still looking for a home and remains available at the <strong>starting bid of \u00a33,200<\/strong>. Josh very generously offered to donate the work 100% so we would love to find it a good home.
