UK-based Charity Challenges
We work with specialist partners to provide access to a number of exciting, supported fund-raising activities here in the UK and beyond, suitable for a range of abilities.
These give you the opportunity for a lifechanging experience while raising vital funds for our projects. Activities range in duration from challenges completed in a single day, to extended treks, climbs and cycles.
Anyone taking on a challenge in aid of Explorers Against Extinction receives a complimentary one year membership to our Explorer Club as a small token of our appreciation.
All funds raised by active challenges in 2021 will support our 21 For 21 project partners – find out more here.
Team Work Makes the Dream Work
Whether you’re running 10km or climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, reaching your goal can be more rewarding if you’re part of a team, so consider recruiting some friends.
In 2021 we’re looking for at least 21 teams/individuals or corporate supporters to choose challenges and fund-raise towards our £44,100 project fund for twenty one small conservation projects around the world, ranging from marine turtles to snow leopards.
If you don’t fancy one of the challenges outlined below, you are very welcome to design your own sponsored activity – parachute jumps, triathlons, iron man events, tough mudders – anything goes. We are registered on all the major fundraising platforms including Just Giving, Virgin Money Giving and Enthuse so getting started is easy.
Swap Sporty for Something Else
If you don’t fancy an active challenge then you may prefer to support 21 For 21 through our creative initiatives: Sketch (art), Focus (photography) and Stories (travel writing). More details here.
Alternatively, whip up a storm in the kitchen, host a coffee morning/bake sale, invite people to a music recital or magic show, an online quiz, or organise a non uniform day at your school – whatever you choose to do, and however much you raise/donate we’d love your support for 21 For 21.

Challenges are designed for a wide range of fitness levels, ages, and experience and are suitable for teams as well as individuals. Your fund-raising will support our projects – next year we have an exciting new 21 for 21 initiative so fund-raisers can select a specific project to partner with if they wish, or they can fund-raise for our central project fund.
Please note: during the registration process you will have the option to select Explorers Against Extinction from a drop-down menu (charities are listed alphabetically in the ‘Other’ section). Expedition: Everest Base Camp 1953
Dates: 27th February – 14th March 2020
Guides: Serap Sherpa, 7 time submitter of Everest. Robert Ferguson, author of the Nepal Handbook from Footprint Guides & EAE Trustee.
Details: In February – March 2020 EAE trustee Robert Ferguson trekked to Everest Base Camp, following the route taken by the 1953 British Everest Expedition that successfully reached the summit. This entailed walking from the Kathmandu Valley to Everest, a journey of some 200 miles through some of the most spectacular terrain in the world. Every step was ascent or descent. He completed the trek using only equipment available at the time.
Rob was joined at Lukla by a group of supporters all of whom fund-raised for EAE. They continued up to the Khumbu Ice-flow and Everest Base Camp.
