If you’re a lover of skiing, you’ll be happy to know it’s only a quick hop over the English Channel to France where there are an array of resorts to indulge in your hobby. Because of the sheer volume of ski resorts, it can be difficult to pinpoint where to go. The good news is you don’t have to search any longer! Here are our top 5-rated French ski resorts that are perfect for those who want to take to the slopes.

Val, d’lsere

Found at the end of the Tarentaise valley, Val d’lsere provides access to the infamous Escape Killy ski zone. There are 158 runs and over 300km of slopes to get stuck into, making it one of the top ski resorts in the country. Val, d’lsere is particularly popular with mixed-ability groups. Whether you’re a skiing newbie or a novice, there is something in this resort to suit everyone. Val d’lsere also hosted the 2009 World Alpine Ski Championships, so who knows, maybe you could be skiing where the professionals did!

Les Gets

The small and quaint village of Les Gets is another popular French ski resort. It originally started out as a dairy farming village, which dates back to the 12th century. Even in the 21st century, Les Gets still retains a rustic charm that sets it apart from other ski resorts. There are more than 650km of pistes to pick from, meaning you’re sure to never get bored! You can find out more about Les Gets at Piste Pro. They have a ski map and resort information to help determine whether it’s the right destination for your next ski trip.

La Plagne

With a ski area spanning 225km, it’s safe to say La Plagne is a skier’s dream! Made up from 10 separate villages, this ski resort provides numerous ski experiences. This all depends on which one you choose to stay in. For example, if you’re going on a family ski holiday, it’s wise to look at Montchavin thanks to its snow garden and sledge area. Those looking to sink a beer or two should check out Plagne Centre where there are lively pubs to enjoy. Aside from skiing, you must bobsleigh while you’re in the resort – we promise it will be tons of fun!

Courchevel

Courchevel is another firm favourite with ski lovers. Part of the Three Valleys ski area, Courchevel is made up of 4 different ski zones, each with its own distinct look and feel. Those after a lively and upbeat atmosphere should head to Courchevel 1650. There are a wide selection of shops too if you’re after some retail therapy. Those interested in chic boutiques may prefer Courchevel 1850. If you want something a little more slow-pace, Courchevel 1550 is known for its relaxing atmosphere.

Val Thorens

Situated at a hefty 2,300m at the head of the Belleville Valley, Val Thorens prides itself on being the highest ski resort across the continent. This ski resort has access to over 600km of linked pistes. There is a wide array of ski terrain here too. From challenging glaciers to gentle nursery, the world is truly your oyster! Those who enjoy post-ski nightlife will feel right at home in Val Thorens. The resort features the highest pub in Europe known as the Frog and Roast Beef. Just imagine having a pint or glass of wine while looking out over brilliant views?

We hope any of the ski resorts listed above serve as the perfect spot for your ski holiday. It’s important to note prices will vary depending on the ski resort you head to. Therefore, make sure to establish a budget well in advance before booking your ski trip.
