Spotlight on Little Ruckomechi, Mana Pools

Little Ruckomechi features in our Luxury Zimbabwe itinerary in our new travel section.

Tucked away in a private concession on the western edge of Mana Pools National Park, Little Ruckomechi offers an exclusive and intimate safari experience. Nestled in a grove of mahogany trees along the banks of the Zambezi River, the camp’s setting also provides wonderful views.

As the “little sister” to the renowned Ruckomechi Camp, this tiny camp features just three reed, thatch and canvas tents, ensuring a highly personalised stay for its guests. These are the only two camps in the concession.

Operated by Wilderness Safaris, Little Ruckomechi benefits from high standards of guiding and hospitality. Guests can look forward to a good range of activities structured around their interests, including game drives, walking safaris, canoeing, boat cruises, fishing and birding – all designed to showcase the rich biodiversity of Mana Pools.

The camp’s facilities include a refreshing plunge pool for cooling off during the heat of the day, and a fire pit where you can gather in the evening to share stories under the stars. Whether you’re watching elephants meander by the river or listening to the calls of hippos at dusk, Little Ruckomechi offers a wonderful immersive safari experience.

Seasons in Mana Pools

The prime time to visit Mana Pools is during the dry winter months from June to early November – the dry season draws wildlife to the Zambezi River, making it the prime time for game viewing. Large herds of elephants, buffalo, and other animals congregate near the water, providing exciting viewing opportunities. This is also the best time for walking safaris, as the sparse vegetation offers best visibility.

April and May are also possible however the area will still be quite green and lush and wildlife dispersed over a wider area following the long rains which fall from November to March – wildlife viewing requires a little more patience and walking is a little more challenging at this time of year.
