How to Get around the 3 Common Hassles of Travelling

For many people, thinking about the difficulties that they might face on the way to their destination can be stressful enough on its own. Fortunately, there’s a way to turn this anxious energy into a positive experience. Instead of simply focusing on how things can go wrong while you’re travelling, you can anticipate these challenges, devise a way to reduce their impact on your journey, and prevent them from dictating the outcome of your trip.

Ready to become more proactive about preparing for your upcoming vacation or business-related visits? Here are some of the common hassles that are associated with travelling and what you can do to get around them:

How to Not Run Late for Your Flight

A lot of people fear missing their flights. It’s a reasonable thing to worry about, given how much of a hassle it is to rebook a flight as well as reorganise your schedule and itinerary around it. Unfortunately, between two per cent to eight per cent of air travellers miss their flights every year due to missed connections.

If you have the luxury of time and you’re expecting a series of flights, you must allot enough time between each leg of your trip. Only by doing so will you be able to deal with any reasonable delays. That said, if you don’t have a lot of time to spare, you can choose to stay in a hotel near the airport during each layover. That way, you won’t have to deal with road traffic.

Let’s say you’re in Singapore for a layover on your way to your tropical holiday or a business trip, and you have a bit of time before your next plane arrives. It would be a good idea to stay in a Singapore airport accommodation so you can immediately head to your assigned terminal as soon as you need to. Yotelair, located in Jewel Changi Airport, is a practical option for such a situation.

How to Avoid Getting Lost

Not every traveller is an expert navigator, and this can be an issue when you’re visiting a location for the first time. If you weren’t gifted with exceptional spatial awareness, then you need to make additional preparations before your trip.

To start, thoroughly review your itinerary so you know exactly where you’re supposed to at specific times of the day. You should also research the modes of transportation that you need to take to get from one place to another. Additionally, you’ll want to list down the emergency numbers that you can call in case you need immediate assistance.

In this day and age, though, the internet is your friend no matter where you go. Having access to it is especially useful when you’re in an unfamiliar country. With that in mind, check out how you can stay connected to the internet even if your journey takes you to different cities and countries.

Before you leave, see how you can keep yourself online. Just to be safe, download the offline maps, apps, and references that you need to find your way in case you lose access to the internet. If the country you’re heading to speaks your language, it’s always an option to ask the locals for help so you can find the exact address that you’re looking for.

How to Avoid Getting Sick During Your Trip

Travelling to other places can expose you to many different cultures and practices. However, it can also increase your chances of encountering pathogens that may be unfamiliar to your body’s immune system. There’s always a chance that something you eat while on the road or while enjoying your destination can cause food poisoning. It’s always better to be safe and sorry, so make sure to prepare for these possibilities.

If you’re prone to getting an upset stomach, bring essential medication and toiletries that you can whip out at a moment’s notice. If you’re spending time in a place with a lot of sun, put on sunscreen, drink water frequently, and wear appropriate sun protection to avoid getting sunburned. You’ll also want to pack repellant to prevent insect bites, melatonin to help with jet lag, and medications to keep travel sickness at bay.

Getting travel insurance can also lend you some peace of mind in case you get seriously ill while far from your loved ones. While you’ll still have to deal with the inconveniences that come with getting sick, taking the right precautions can help you prevent a bad situation from getting worse.

The world outside of one’s regular haunts can be unpredictable. Truly, going on a journey can take you far from the comforts that you’re used to living with. Take note, however, that travelling can also widen your horizons and enable you to see things from fresh new perspectives. So, stay open to the positive possibilities presented by travelling. By doing so, you may just see the common hassles associated with this activity as opportunities to practice your problem-solving skills while on the go.
