What’s better than a good meal? A good meal that doesn’t harm the planet, of course! The food industry is known to generate a significant amount of waste, and restaurants are not an exception. However, some establishments are stepping up and taking sustainability seriously. From using locally sourced ingredients to installing eco-friendly tech, these restaurants are redefining what it means to be a greener business. In this blog post, you’ll learn about some of the notable restaurants around the world that are doing their part for the environment.

  1. SUSHISAMBA, London

SUSHISAMBA, the rooftop restaurant in London, isn’t just serving up scrumptious sushi rolls anymore. They’re also taking steps to become more sustainable and eco-friendlier, which is music to our environment-loving ears. From using biodegradable takeout containers to sourcing seafood from sustainable fisheries, these guys clearly give a sushi (pun intended) about the planet. But wait, there’s more! They’re even offsetting their carbon emissions through a clever tree-planting scheme. Who knew that chowing down on sushi could have such a positive impact on the world? Bravo, SUSHISAMBA.

  1. Silo – Brighton, UK

Silo is the epitome of sustainable dining. This zero-waste restaurant aims to reduce food waste by sourcing ingredients locally, composting leftovers, and even designing their furniture with recycled materials. What’s even more impressive is that they have completely eliminated the need for a bin! Their menu features plant-based dishes such as smoked beet Wellington and foraged mushroom broth. They also bake all their bread on-site, using a wood-fired oven and grains they mill themselves.

  1. The Mitre, Richmond

Looking for a pizza place that’s not only delicious but also eco-friendly? Look no further than The Mitre in Richmond! Not only do they make some of the tastiest pies in town, but they also care about the impact they have on the planet. These guys won’t just deliver your pizza, they’ll do it with a clean conscience using their trusty electric fleet. And when it comes to ingredients, they only source from sustainable suppliers. Who knew that being a responsible adult could taste so darn good? Pop into The Mitre and feel good about indulging yourself – pizza never tasted so eco-friendly!

  1. Neighbourhood – Hong Kong

When it comes to sustainability, Neighbourhood prides itself on being “the first sustainable restaurant in Hong Kong”. This fine-dining establishment uses locally-sourced produce and serves a farm-to-table menu that changes depending on seasonality. They have even created their own hydroponics farm, where they grow microgreens and herbs to supply the kitchen.

  1. Blue Hill at Stone Barns – New York, US

Located on a working farm, Blue Hill at Stone Barns takes local sourcing to a whole new level. The restaurant grows its produce on-site, so you can watch your food being plucked from the ground before it’s served to you. They also use every part of the animal, whether it’s for meat, broth or even insects. The restaurant even uses a waste management system that recycles food waste into fertilizer which is then used on the farm.

  1. Soil to Fork – Dubai, UAE

Soil to Fork is a plant-based and zero-waste restaurant located in Dubai. The owner, Mira Naaman, believes in supporting local farmers by sourcing all their ingredients within 160 kilometers of the restaurant. Even their plates and cutlery are made from biodegradable materials. The menu features dishes such as Massaman curry and roasted stuffed peppers. Their coffee is also sustainably sourced, using beans that are grown in Yemen and roasted in Dubai.

  1. Fifteen Cornwall – Cornwall, UK

Fifteen Cornwall is a restaurant that is not only sustainable but also ethical. The restaurant trains young people who come from challenging backgrounds in hospitality, giving them an opportunity to build a career. They have also formed strong relationships with local fishermen to ensure their menu is filled with sustainably caught fish. Fifteen Cornwall is a social enterprise, meaning all profits are reinvested into the training program and the community.

These restaurants demonstrate that going green doesn’t mean sacrificing taste or luxury. By implementing sustainable practices, they are not only contributing to a healthier planet but also showing how businesses can be more impactful.

So the next time you’re dining out, consider trying one of these options. By supporting these establishments, you’re not only treating yourself to great food but also supporting sustainability efforts. Together, we can all take small steps towards a brighter, greener future.
