Focus for Survival Finalists 2025

Thank you to everyone who entered Focus for Survival 2025. A special thanks also goes to our expert selection panel – Paul Goldstein, Will Burrard-Lucas, Sue Flood, and our patron, Levison Wood.

The final 12 images were chosen from all submissions after careful consideration of technical ability, composition, originality, impact, and suitability for the calendar.

As Sue Flood explained:
“When judging photo contests, one is always looking for something that stands out from the crowd. Ideally an image that will evoke some sort of emotion – something that’s a bit different. As a wildlife photographer, zoologist and former BBC Natural History Unit filmmaker, I’m often drawn to animal behaviour but always looking for an artistic moment.”

This year’s final 12 showcase the work of photographers from seven different countries. They include Australian photographer Jonathan Allen, whose extraordinary image captures a rare white humpback calf with its mother in the waters off Tonga, and Anirban Dutta, a maths teacher from India, whose mystical photograph reveals a snail feasting on mushrooms.

We can’t think of a more fitting calendar cover image than Ria Waugh’s portrait of an elephant family in Amboseli, Kenya – a perfect choice as we prepare to celebrate 10 years of our creative initiatives in 2026, a year that will be all about elephants.

Many congratulations to all the finalists, and sincere thanks to everyone who took part in this year’s competition.

Which image is your favourite?

All the finalists’ images are eligible for the Focus for Survival Peoples’ Choice Award. The image with the most votes will win. Strictly one vote per person.  Voting open 2-26 October.
