Offbeat Mara is a small, traditional safari camp, situated within the 74,000 acre Mara North Conservancy. This conservancy along with Olare Motorogi, is one of our favourite safari areas with a fantastic density of wildlife.
The benefits of being in a private conservancy are numerous – there are only a dozen partner camps in Mara North so the number of guests at any one time is strictly monitored and ensures you do not see the same levels of traffic as in the national reserve – even at peak times.
In addition there are many activities available to you including off-roading, sundowners on the plains and bush dining which are not possible in the national reserve. There is a strict etiquette within the reserve ensuring a limited number of vehicles are permitted at sightings.
The camp itself is tucked away in a quiet corner of the Mara North Conservancy, offering an exclusive experience. The camp has just seven ensuite guest tents and is very atmospheric – perfect for those looking for that stripped back old-school safari experience.

A wonderful wild fly-in holiday designed for those seeking spectacular game viewing combining two contrasting areas of Kenya.
You stay at two small camps from the fabulous Kicheche portfolio – one within the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Laikipia, and one in the famous Mara North Conservancy – this trip provides an authentic tented safari experience, coupled with excellent guiding.
Staying in Mara North Conservancy, where guest numbers and vehicles are strictly monitored, helps to provide an exclusive experience. Wildlife is exceptional here.
This trip also offers the chance for a behind-the-scenes conservation experience.
Ol Pejeta is the largest black rhino rhino sanctuary in East and Central Africa, and home to the world’s last two northern white rhinos in the world as well as many other rare species. As well as having the opportunity to visit the northern white rhinos, and the chimpanzee sanctuary you may also wish to visit the anti-poaching unit.
The specialist K9 unit includes Drum, a conservation arms and ammunition Spaniel who joined the unit thanks to funding by Explorers Against Extinction.
*If you specifically wish to time your visit with the Great Wildebeest Migration – it is usually in the Masai Mara between around August and October.
