Explorers against Extinction 2017 was a unique event highlighting the threat of extinction to some of Africa's most iconic species including elephant and rhino. A sell-out audience enjoyed an entertaining evening at London's historic Royal Geographical Society as leading explorers, adventurers, wildlife experts and conservationists, including Sir Ranulph Fiennes and Colonel John Blashford-Snell, came together to make a stand against extinction.

"One of the most important conservation events of the year."

This important conservation campaign  was organised by the  Real Africa Trust(UK registered charity No 1149508) in aid of wildlife conservation partners, each one pivotal in the battle against species extinction.

The small, dedicated team at Animals Saving Animals (ASA) focus on prevention.  They train and deploy specialist anti-poaching dogs to squads across Africa protecting elephant, rhino and lion.   The aim is to raise enough money to fund further anti-poaching dogs for Rhino Conservation Botswana and Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya. Find out more here.

The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2017. This pioneering conservation organisation rescues and rehabilitates orphaned elephants and is dedicated to the preservation of endangered species and the protection of habitats.

SKETCH FOR SURVIVAL

In recent years elephants have been killed in Africa for their ivory at a rate as high as one every 15 minutes

We  asked artists, explorers, adventurers and celebrities to do a simple 15 minute Sketch for Survival to help raise awareness of this shocking statistic and also to raise funds to combat wildlife crime.  All these sketches, drawings, cartoons, doodles and paintings were available for purchase via online bidding and on the Explorers night at the RGS. At the event we were joined by Sotheby's Deputy Director and Specialist in Contemporary Art, Tom Eddisonwho lent his expertise. In total our auction raised over £40,000. Many thanks to all our artists and supporters.

We had original artwork from leading wildlife artists including the award-winning Karen Laurence-Rowe, Gary Hodges, Pip McGarry and Pollyanna Pickering as well as from leading cartoonist Gabriel Alborozo. We also had sketches from celebrity supporters including Dame Judi Dench, Stephen Fry, Bill Nighy, Kevin Pietersen, Ray Mears, Fearne Cotton and many more.
